How to speed up your harddrive in Windows 10 by creating fractions

Let’s say you have several harddrives in your windows 10 computer.

Some are faster, others are slower.

The ones that are slower have bigger capacity, like the 3 TB storage that you have that is considerably slower than this 128GB that you have.

Now because of the speed you chose the 128GB harddisk, probably SD, for your windows installation.

Given the desire of windows to always store applications on „C:“, the 128GB SD, you run out of space sooner or later.

You don’t want to buy a bigger SD, because, well, you have the 3 TB.

You could install applications on the 3 TB HDD, but they will run significantly slower.

What do you do?

Here is the solution: you fractionise.

You move those files to c: that you access often and those that are huge and you access less often to other destinations.

Then you link them.

This is how you balance it out.

Here is what it looks like in practise:

    1. Get Procmon from Microsoft.
    2. Start Procmon.
    3. Click on „Reset“
    4. Click on „OK“
    5. Use the applications you normally use that are slow
    6. After a while come back to Procmon
    7. Press „Ctrl+E“
    8. Deactivate everything in the Top Icon Menu but File Activity
    9. Go to „Tools“ -> „Count Occurrences“
    10. Choose „Path“ from „Column“
    11. Click on „Count“
    12. Click on the „Count“ column to sort by occurences descendingly
    13. Click on „Save“
    14. Save to CSV

Depending on demand(ie. page visits) I will write  software that actually moves the files. Feel free to contact me if that already exists, so I can link from here.

How to fix Your Polar Heart Rate monitor sensor H10 or any other HRM with a removable sensor
Your Polar Heart Rate monitor stopped working?
You own a H10* or any other HRM with a removable sensor on your chest?
You are looking for ways to solve the issue?
Here are some tips I figured out that will make you run again with it.
First of all, keep in mind that you might need to do all those tasks for your HRM to work again, so be patient. After each step, check if it’s already working.
  • Clean the connectors of your HRM.
  • Clean the connectors of your chest strap.
  • Use steel wool on the inside connectors of your chest strap to improve connectivity.
  • Check the battery charge and replace if necessary.
  • Check whether the battery is set in place.
  • Check the inside connectors of the HRM sensor to see if they are well connected. Pull the connector on the side a little bit more to the inside, that often does the trick.
  • Moisturize the chest strap before use.
  • Warning: physics ahead. Have cable-connected headphones ready(Bluetooth doesn’t work with this). Connect them to an audio source and listen to it. Move the cable over your HRM while it’s on your chest. If it’s working, you will hear regular distortion according to your heartbeat. If that is working, your HRM is all right, look for the solution in your watch.
  • Use a screwdriver and connect the two metals inside the hrm without the battery in place. This resets the HRM.
Good luck and tell me if it worked!

Why do we need another meditation app?

For some reason I decided to install the android app of headspace.

There is a guy speaking. He wants you to calm down and breath. To observe your thoughts, observe your mind, observe your breath.

Nothing new, at all.

Yet there it is, the headspace app. Nothing fancy, nothing special.

Just one of many apps that deserve to be dismissed.

Yet 1 million people downloaded it and 38,228 people gave it an average of 4.6 of 5(Feb 24th of 2017).

I listened to it once. And removed the app. No benefit that justifies buying the app’s course for 14$ a month.

Netflix is a better investment.

Now I read that the guy who created it was a billionaire.

Money works in mysterious ways.

I resent myself for downloading and trying it just to be assured that it is the same „Be calm now“ nonsense you can get in every corner for free.
